Dr. Daniel Bucks is an internationally recognized expert on skin biology and drug delivery related to topical product development.  Dan has focused on this area of research resulting, in part, in over 50 publications, several patents and invited presentations.  Dr. Bucks’ training and experience combined with excellent problem solving abilities results in Dan being able to quickly trouble shoot problems encountered throughout the development of dermatological products. He is a highly valuable asset to any team developing a product that contacts the skin.
 

Dr. Bucks developed and managed the Skin Biology / Drug Delivery departments at several companies.  Dan is unsurpassed in his ability to design and interpret in vitro skin permeation testing.  In addition to the development of cutting edge methods for evaluation of drug delivery following topical application to skin, he also implemented in vitro methods for following drug transport across the eye.  Dan has played an important role in the development of the majority of topical products commercialized in the last 15 years.

 

Dr. Bucks is an effective manager as well as an extraordinary teacher.  At Dow Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dan cultivated the external client services business associated with his department to produce the highest profitability ever achieved for any department.  In addition, he enthusiastically shares his knowledge to others. His ability to teach and bring excitement to the subject makes work an exciting place to be; thereby continuing the development of others. His teaching abilities are an extremely powerful tool with helping external clients as well.

 

Dan’s success in the pharmaceutical industry can be traced back to the contract laboratory he managed concurrently while working on his graduate program at the University of California, San Francisco  (UCSF).  This early contract work experience led to his emphasis on meeting client expectations while earning his Ph.D. in pharmaceutical chemistry from UCSF.  Dan also achieved his BA in biochemistry / molecular biology and MA in molecular biology from San Francisco State University.

 

Dan resides in Millbrae, CA with his wife and two Portuguese Water Dogs.  His interests include training and showing their dogs in addition to participating in field archery with his son.  Dan is also mechanically inclined as demonstrated by the maintenance he performs on his small collection of motorcycles he rides.
